Bobby Fletcher began posting on this blog a few days ago. His views and claims were not well received by me or other readers. Several people accused him of being a spy, with no proof.
In fairness, I posed several questions to Fletcher so that he could set the record straight and clear himeself. I offended him when I did this, and for that I am sorry. This said, it's only fair that I Fletcher's respondes.
Fletcher:
1. No, I am not a spy.
2. No I do not report any officials of the Chinese or Taiwanese government.
3. No I have not provided information to these governments.
4. No these government have not asked me to do anything for them.
If someone out there has proof to refute Fletcher's claim, they should come forward. Otherwise, I would like to get on with debate and dialogue: away from the personal attacks.
In closing, I thought a lot about why Flether's post rub people the wrong way. I've come to the conclusion that it's mostly because he is not fair in his challenges to the "themes" that are posted. This does not make him a spy, but it does give the appearance that he is one sided.
Here's what I mean... Fletcher sometimes quotes out of context. He takes a small passage from an article and uses it to suit his argument, even if the article in it's entirety, does not support his view.
Secondly, if Fletcher can exploit the smallest of information in an article he will, and then he uses that small exploitation to claim the entire theme to be invalid. For example, I sighted several articles on Chinese Front companies. In one particular article he took exception to the claim there are 3000 front companies operating in the U.S. He refuted the truthfulness of several MAJOR news outlets by providing a link to a SINGLE blog which casts doubt on the report. When he challenged the truthfulness of the article he attempted to disprove the entire theme (Front Companies in the U.S.).
The problem with this, and I think the problem people have with Fletcher is he never addresses the other articles. In order words, by assuming one article is questionable, he purports all other information with respect to the theme must be untruthful too. This sort of challenge draws attention away from the theme, the other sources of information, and attempts to discredit the entire claim. Not sure if Fletcher realizes this or not, but this is: propaganda 101.
Anyway, I think this is the reason why Fletcher rubs everyone the wrong way... well that, and the notion that every time he refutes a claim, it typically leans in the favor of the Chinese Communist Party.
He's also very critical of the U.S. ..does this mean he's a spy? No. But, being critical of the U.S. is easier to swallow when you can back your claim up with multiple sources, fact, and/or evidence. And, if you challenge a theme... at least challenge all of the sources rather than a sentence of ONE source.
The methods Flecher uses to post about the CHICOMS and the U.S., by in large, make people suspicious. Why? Because the motivation behind his post comes into question. It's hard to understand why you would defend China's Human rights record by challenging a single report, when the entire Human Rights world and popular press clearly outlines their deplorable record.
Ok, now let's get back to the news!

HI MadSmoof
You have clarified Bobby tactics very well labeling it propaganda 101.
Ive never heard of that term but being a FGP we are very aware that spies don't necessarily fit the old standard look or behavior.
We know for a fact that many Uni students are given free travel and education in foreign countries with the promise that they must spy on Falun Gong and other Chinese so called dissidents. We know this because some of them stop spying when we they see we are not what the CCP says we are and that we are good people.
Chinese Defector Chen Yonglin who defected in 2005 in Australia worked for the Sydney Chinese consulate and used to do just that spy on FG that was his undercover job.
Chen then discovered that he admired FG because 1. he saw that the CCP had lied about us and that 2. we were good people that he respected and he realized how evil the CCP was
It took him a few years to have the courage to stop spying on us and finally he defected because the Chinese consulate realized that he favored FG and that they were going to ship him back to china for interrogation and imprisonment, possible death.
Chen told the media and the politicians that there were 3000 spies here in Australia. And that they were everywhere in top jobs including students and lecturers in universities.
I have asked Bobby many times on many blogs why he defends the CCP?
He has never answered this. What is his motivation?
Luo Gan one of the members of the CCP politburo made this statement in 2005.
New call for crackdown on 'hostile forces'
March 01, 2005
China has called for a crackdown on "hostile forces'' that threaten national security ahead of a high-profile annual parliamentary meeting, state media reported.
The demand was made by Luo Gan, China's top security official and one of nine members of the communist party's Politburo, in the latest issue of the party's Qiushi magazine.
The National People's Congress session is typically a time when people with grievances head to Beijing to express their complaints. As a result, authorities are on high alert.
In the magazine, Luo highlighted the importance of safeguarding stability in the Tibet and Xinjiang regions.
He also said it was crucial to fight against the Falun Gong spiritual sect, outlawed as an ``evil cult'' by authorities in 1999.
``The disturbance and destruction from hostile forces in China and abroad constitutes a serious threat to social stability in a strategically important period in our country,'' Luo wrote.
He said intelligence work must be stepped up to smash their activities.
``We must insist on actively attacking them, as soon as they emerge, to take early action to keep the enemies under control,'' he said.
China views Turkic-speaking Muslim Uygur separatists in its northwestern Xinjiang region as terrorists, and fears a possible pro-independence uprising in Tibet, which it brought under its control in 1951.
Luo said officials and cadres must take effective measures against ``overseas hostile forces'' infiltrating China under the pretext of economic, cultural exchanges and religious activities.
He did not spell out who he was referring to. The Internet must also be strictly supervised to prevent it from being used by those ``hostile forces'' to spread their messages, he said.
The article said the ``hostile forces'' were colluding with each other to plot terrorist activities and to deepen conflicts among Chinese people.
Luo's remarks came after President Hu Jintao called for ``a harmonious society'' in a recent meeting at the Central Communist Party School.
AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE
SO with that statement its not that unusual for spies to be everywhere. Especially when you have those variables that you mentioned associated with Bobby Fletcher. It becomes a fair statement.
Jana Shearer, a fair statement would be you providing proof to back up your outlandish claim.
Do you have any proof I'm a spy? I didn't think so.
How ironic that you, a documented Falun Gong disciple who is actively generating anti-China propaganda on websites operated and paid for by Falun Gong, accuses others:

Why do you defend the Communist regime? Most people who are deluded by years of communist rule will argue the case but not in the way that you do Bobby. Yours is systematic and never changing never relenting or improving not even on any small point. I am a Falun Gong practitioner who is trying to stop a ferocious persecution that is bringing a travesty to our world.
There fore i spend a lot of my time alerting and posting blogs so that people can understand what is going on. But what are you doing Bobby? You also spend alot of your time also posting blogs trying to discredit any criticism of the regime.. So who are you working for?
I am a Falun Gong practitioner so i ask who are you?
Jana. Do you have any proof I'm a spy? I didn't think so.
So much for your claim of Truth, Compassion, Forbearance.
Ah hah! There you go again Bobby, "propaganda 101" style, eh...
Ya not answering J's question...
Matter of fact, I've got high regards for J as she doesn't hide anything.
You Bobby, jumping from blogs to blogs to discredit the Falun Gong on a full time basis...
Shame!...
Do find a space in your heart to forgive me if I do not reply to your coming slander/insults in your next reply.
Cheers mate ("J)
J, thanks for the reply. I should have clarified the term "propaganda 101". 101 is a common term used in U.S. universities to describe entry level courses (e.g. biology 101). Some may refer to it as "first semester". Second semester level could be 201 etc. The point was... the type of propaganda which I thought was being employed was nothing new or sophisticated... but basic entry level work. More on propaganda later.
